Buying Irish Could Create 6,000 Jobs

A new survey released by Amarach Research has suggested that if housholds spent just €4 more a week on ‘Guaranteed Irish’ products, it could lead to the creation of 6,000 new jobs a year.

A survey released by Amarach research this morning shows the average spend per household on such products is just under €16 a week.

The survey revealed that  83% of consumers believe it is more important to buy Irish than it was five years ago, while 63% say it helps them feel they are supporting Ireland in some way.

The Executive Director of Guaranteed Irish, Mr Tom Ray pointed out that there was now an array of products, and not just foodstuffs, where customers could support buying Irish.

He said that eight out of 10 people were pro-active in looking for Irish products, but these were often not clearly marked because there was a proliferation of own brand and company symbols of items for sale.
